School Resource Officer
In September 2008, the Police Departments of Middleton, Topsfield, and Boxford, along with the Masconomet Regional School District, created a memorandum of understanding. Each Police Department will provide all compensation and benefits to fund a school resource officer. The Middleton Police Department has chosen Officer Michael Lecolst to fill that position. This endeavor is obviously beneficial in reducing crime and opening the lines of communication at the regional school. It is my hope that the officers will establish a bond with the students and a relationship that carries outside the school district. We have found that students feel comfortable speaking with law enforcement officers about smaller issues before they become full blown crises.

The goals and objectives of the school resource program are to assist the Masconomet Regional School District in providing a safe learning environment and to improve relationships between law enforcement officers and todays' youth. The program also attempts to promote a better understanding of the law enforcement officers' role in society while educating students, parents, and school personnel to build a better community and to provide a role model in the educational system.
